The game itself provides many different options. The quick race allows you to race on any track with your choice of a vehicle from the Quick Race List or one from your garage. The Career is probably the better option to take, as this is how you can choose whatever vehicle you would like. When first starting, you must start with the basic stock and earn money to purchase upgrade parts and equipment such as off-road suspension, better tires, and high power lights. After a few races, your car becomes much better and easier to drive.
As far as the tracks go, you have a choice from 15 different tracks that are all somewhat unique. Just because there is a road does not mean that you must follow it. You are free to drive anywhere your truck will take you although you must make it through the checkpoints. I must admit that I found it rather interesting to be driving underwater and see a shark swim in front of me!
The driving conditions for each track can be clear, foggy, dense fog, and pitch rainy. Along with these options, you can choose what time of day: midday, dusk, night, or pitch black. These options help make the racing more interesting.
As far as performance goes, the trucks were a bit difficult to control until I altered the sensitivity. This made it much easier to run. A good graphics card and 3D accelerator are recommended for the best play.
With the many different options, there is an incentive to continue to win races to see what new parts you can buy and eventually have the dream truck that you have always wanted. With enough money, you can even start working on another vehicle of your choice with even more options.
The graphics were quite impressive with somewhat accurate lighting and pretty good physics for the off-road driving. The 3D graphics card will help tremendously along with at least 4 MB of Ram on the graphics card.
The sound is fairly good including both background music to listen to as well as the sound effects. The sound also allows you to customize the output quality and rate. I preferred to turn down the music slightly so I could hear the sound effects more while I was driving.
The installation was quite simple with no hassles. Just follow the instructions and you will be racing in no time. Just remember, you don’t have to stay on the road!
