"Icewind Dale II looks to be the farewell appearance for one of the most successful of all game engines. Recently, I read an article in a computer gaming magazine about the Infinity that postulated that it was responsible for more entertainment value and success than its vaunted Quake and Unreal counterparts. I certainly cannot disagree."
"The sound effects are pretty good. The familiar spell chanting and echoing while casting as well as some pretty decent monster sounds and ambient sound isn't grating. There are several voicesets to choose from for your intrepid band of adventurers. Furthermore, the voice acting for the enemies is pretty solid all around..."
"Everywhere you turn in the game, from graphics to interface, AI, scripting, dialogue, quest design, story and even humor, every aspect shows great refinement. If as expected, this title proves to be the last hurrah for the Infinity Engine, it is shaping up to be going out with a bang, not a whimper."
"But with more hours of gameplay than the original and its expansion put together, there's more than enough to keep anyone going here for quite some time."
"With a very good game! Black Isle obviously spent time working on the "fun factor" which is a good thing, because we play games for entertainment not as part of a thesis for a Masters in English Literature! So, despite a flawed journal, I am looking forward to this game much more after having played the press demo and I hope that the rest of the game is as enjoyable."
"Even though the first few areas are all we've seen from Icewind Dale II, the game itself seems quite playable, and creating new and interesting characters seems like it may be a game in itself."
"Icewind Dale II is shaping up to be a game that Dungeons & Dragons fans everywhere should definitely consider playing when it's released later this year."
"One More Time: Designer Chris Avellone returns with lots of information on Black Isle's nearly completed game."
"Nearly There: Designer John Deiley offers perhaps the final progress report on Black Isle's almost finished game. With five new screenshots."
"Icewind Dale II is the sequel to Icewind Dale and it's expansion pack Heart of Winter. It is based on a very modified Infinity Engine allowing the usage of 3rd Edition rules. Including new races, classes, feats, skills and a whole lot more it promises to be more than just a sequel.
We put some questions to Dave Maldonado to find out a bit more about the game."
"Nearly Done: Designer Damien Foletto takes a break from polishing to introduce a female party and a cool armor."
"The Final Push: Designer Dave Maldonado on the team members' jobs as Black Isle's sequel nears completion."
"Thanks to Black Isle's Adam Levenson, who provided us with 3 great sample tracks from the upcoming Icewind Dale 2. The music has been composed by Inon Zur, who also did Baldur's Gate 2 - Throne of Bhaal or Fallout Fantasy for example."
"Grab Bag II: Black Isle Designer Chris Avellone with a new item, spell icons, status report, tips, screenshots and more."
Chris Avellone talks about a cool item, spell icons and more.
"See what awaits when Black Isle returns to the frozen northern Forgotten Realms in its latest Dungeons & Dragons RPG."
"Designer John Deiley tells us about design lockdown and the current status of Black Isle's upcoming D&D RPG."
"Designer Dave Maldonado tells us what the team has been up to lately on Black Isle's upcoming RPG."
"Designer Dave Maldonado returns to tell RPG Vault about recent "insane" changes implemented in Black Isle's RPG."
Black Isle certainly did a good job of keeping info on this keep hush-hush, as it has apparently been in the works since the summer of 2001. Of course what this means is that it is that much closer to completion, at least in theory. So, if you’re just about through the epic juggernaut that is the Baldur’s Gate series, it looks like you’ll have something fresh to dig into soon enough.
"In Black Isle Studios' upcoming Icewind Dale II, Targos, the largest outpost of civilization, is threatened by hordes of ferocious Orcs supported by frightening Goblin riders atop their equally terrifying Worg mounts. In our Icewind Dale II Designer Diary #1 in which Designer Dave Maldonado offers an inside perspective on how the project got started and four new screenshots."
"Fortunately, thanks to Black Isle, we were able to obtain our Icewind Dale II Interview in which Lead Designer J.E. Sawyer provides an interesting and informative introduction to the new game."
