The PC version of Painkiller (due March 2004) has already grabbed media attention, with its frenetic action and gothic style, and the Xbox version is expected to take the game to even higher levels.
“We are really excited about Painkiller coming to Xbox,” commented Richard Wah Kan, DreamCatcher Games’ CEO, “Xbox is a true hardcore powerhouse, and it’s got all the muscle needed to run a game like Painkiller.”
This first-person horror shooter features truly stunning graphics, an amazingly powerful engine and some of the nastiest level bosses ever seen. Graphically, Painkiller is unmatched, featuring new levels of texture quality and the latest lighting and shadowing techniques. Played across more than 20 completely different levels, the proprietary 3D “PAIN Engine” puts out 100 times more polygons than other games in this genre. Painkiller also features the highly acclaimed Havok 2.0 engine, so popular with the FPS genre.
The Xbox version will maximize the graphical enhancements that the console brings, is expected to support Xbox Live, and will of course feature Dolby Digital Sound, and make use of the console’s hard-drive. It is also expected to have additional gameplay levels, and an array of additional level bosses for Xbox.
Painkiller is certain to satisfy a gamer's hunger for intense, fast-paced swarming action. It’s an adrenaline addict’s nightmare, where hellish monsters materialize in seemingly endless mobs. It’s a trip. Painkiller, developed by People Can Fly, will carry a Mature rating (ESRB).
