Part 2 of RPG Vault's interview with Rick Hall about Ultima X: Odyssey's combat system.
"We've held focus group and internal tests, taken player feedback based on our descriptions, and a myriad of other steps to try to ensure that we achieve our stated goal of solid interactivity in combat. It's a long, slow process, but the end result is something that gives a player a lot of choices and flexibility in a fight."
RPG Vault interviews Rick Hall about Ultima X: Odyssey's combat system.
"At its heart, it is definitely a massively multiplayer experience. We've simply tried to provide an environment where it "feels" as heroic as the experience you'd get in a solo-player game."
RPG Vault has posted their fourth Ultima X: Odyssey interview.
"In Ultima X: Odyssey, you won't be penalized at all for grouping with lower or higher level characters. This may mean that high-level characters can help a lower level character advance at a slightly faster rate than normal, but we'd rather that than have friends unable to play together.""All characters have a basic attack move that costs no power, including magic users, which means that you'll never run out of power and find yourself completely useless. There won't be any reagents to worry about - again, we've avoided creating a system that forces magic users to play one way, and fighters to play another."
"One of our design philosophies has been to try to create a system where starting players aren't required to make crucial decisions early on. This is because, clearly, during your first character creation phase, you know little to nothing about the game yet."
"As to why we chose the name Ultima X instead of UO2, well, aside from the fictional reasons, there were additional considerations. We wanted to make a clear distinction that UXO is not a sequel to Ultima Online."
"Instead, UXO is both the spiritual and literal successor to the single player series that ended with Ultima IX. The game’s fiction extends directly from that game, and the gameplay elements hearken back to the classic CRPG’s of the Ultima series, as UXO reintroduces the virtues as a central gameplay element."
"'Not to compete with Ultima Online' This asks for some speculation. I found some unconfirmed rumours that Ultima X will incorporate the Old World of UO and maybe allow players to go back and forth."
