Fear strikes close to home in KONAMI'S Silent Hill 4: The Room
written by: Chris Moody on 1/11/2004 10:29:18 PM

Taking the series in a new direction, apprehension and fear immediately run high when the new main character, Henry Townshend, finds himself trapped in his own cursed apartment. Only by exploring mysterious portals leading to disturbing alternate worlds will Henry begin to uncover clues as to why he is trapped. However, in true Silent Hill fashion, mysterious new characters, horrendous creatures, and the undead will use any means necessary to impede his progress. A tense atmosphere and grotesque enemies will get the player's heart thumping as Silent Hill 4 delivers a gameplay experience that fans and newcomers will never forget.

Using state of the art technology, the development team has effectively created bone-chilling effects to add to the game's creepy atmosphere. Players will be able to see changes in environments over time, as the alternate world seeps into reality. In addition, Silent Hill 4 shifts between the first and third-person perspective, which is a first for the series. Beautifully detailed environments, a haunting soundtrack and the game's trademark psychological horror complete Silent Hill 4's overall fear factor as players travel between the room and their worst nightmare.

About the Silent Hill series of games and franchise information Konami's Silent Hill® franchise first debuted on the PlayStation® in 1999, and established the series' brand of psychological horror. It went on to sell over a million units and is considered one of the scariest games of all time. The follow up sequel, Silent Hill® 2, was equally well received and praised for its use of new 3D sound technology that added a new dimension to gameplay. Silent Hill® 3 was released with critical acclaim for PlayStation®2 in August 2003 and is considered to be the best game in the series. The Silent Hill® franchise has also expanded into other entertainment genres including a major motion picture and comic series. French production company Davis Films will produce the feature film adaptation of the hit franchise for worldwide release and IDW will adapt the Silent Hill® franchise into a comic series starting in February 2004.
