SAN FRANCISCO – JUNE 5, 2006 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced a partnership with on-air radio DJs in New York (WHTZ-FM), L.A. (KIIS-FM), Philadelphia (WUSL-FM), Chicago (WGCI-FM), Miami (WMIB-FM) and Oakland (KMEL-FM) to promote the AND 1® Streetball video game on-air during its launch June 5-18. Popular local personalities such as Paul “Cubby” Bryant and The Hot Boyz have been integrated into the video game. The radio DJs from cities featured in the game have been integrated to introduce exclusive music tracks from local artists. The DJs are present with station IDs, logos and voice drops in the game.
“Bringing together the talents of both rap artists and radio DJs from the same regions has never been done before in a video game,” said Jay Cohen, vice president of publishing at Ubisoft. “East Coast, West Coast, North and South; no matter where gamers are, we wanted them to experience the local vibe of the cities straight from the AND 1 Mix Tape Tour. Introducing hot new music through the voices of radio’s most recognizable personalities makes the experience more true to life and engaging for players.”
Radio DJs featured in AND 1 Streetball include Ed Lover from WPRR-FM and Paul “Cubby” Bryant from WHTZ-FM in New York; The Hot Boyz, Mikey Dredd and Uncle O, from WUSL-FM in Philadelphia; Chuy Gomez and Big Von from KMEL-FM in Oakland; ODM from KIIS in Los Angeles; The Bad Boys and Sam Silk from WCGI in Chicago; and Papa Keith from WMIB in Miami. The exclusive AND 1 Streetball video game soundtrack features 13 songs, including San Quinn performing “Make Money Take Money,” Freeway performing “Stand Up” and Rhymefest, performing “Coming for You.”
“We’re excited to be partnering with Ubisoft to feature DJs in the AND 1 Streetball video game,” said Michael Erickson, Clear Channel Regional Vice President of Programming for Northern California. “A large part of our audience is made up of gamers and partnering with Ubisoft to have DJs actually in the game, and then promoting the game on air, helps us connect with our audience through multiple channels.”
