Myst Comes to Multiplayer Online Gaming
written by: Dale Alan Mayrose on 5/29/2003 2:23:35 PM

Myst was originally released about a decade ago as one of the first programs on a CD-ROM. The puzzle-solving adventure game changed forever the face of home computer gaming. Possessing a beautiful story, stunning graphics, and moving music, Myst truely became a milestone in the gaming world.

Rand Miller, creater of the original Myst is breaking into another gaming dimension, that of multiplayer online games. Uru: Ages Beyond Myst will be a challenge for the developement team, but the difficulties could prove to be well worth it as the ability of online updates would allow it to be an everexpanding world.

Miller says of the project, "In some ways the title itself -- 'u' 'r' 'u' -- we're trying to let you be yourself or anyone. You act as if what you would do if you were there. What would you be interested in exploring, what role, would kind of be the essence of things."

Uru unlike so many other Multiplayer Online Games will not have economies, rampaging monsters, weapons, or even death of any kind. The goal will be to gather knowledge. Knowledge of a long dead civilization accumulated by completing puzzles, working together with others, and very likely asking for quite a few hints along the way.

Uru will be available with a singleplayer mode as all previous Myst titles have in addition to the multiplayer mode. The pricing on the monthly subscription for online use has yet to be announced. New contect will be available for download nearly daily including new puzzles, artifacts, and even new dimentions. An overlying story possibly spanning years is rumoured to be existing in the game as well.
