written by: Dale Alan Mayrose on 9/11/2003 12:51:47 PM

Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers is pleased to announce that its forthcoming PC game Far Cry scooped the award for PC Game of the Show at the recent ECTS event in London.

Ubisoft will publish Far Cry in late 2003, and retains the exclusive rights to publish interactive entertainment software products created under its Far Cry brand.

Far Cry is being developed for PC CD ROM by the German Coburg-based development studio Crytek, who has set new standards in game production by utilizing their own graphic technology -the CryENGINE TM. The engine is capable of delivering realistic physics, stunning sound effects and a highly evolved enemy "team intelligence". Along with these considerable characteristics, it will also gather breathtaking visual effects.

Key game features:

  • Amazing, non-scripted, adaptive AI.
  • Stunning visuals stretching over amazing distances.
  • Exotic locations with non-linear game-design.
  • Different gameplay modes including full-on Hollywood FPS mode or tactical-shooter mode.
  • Various driveable vehicles from jeeps and boats to hand-gliders.
  • Deformable terrain.
  • Rag-doll physics.
  • Polybump technology.
"Considering the unique advanced technology, the amazing graphics and atmosphere of this new jewel, we have great expectations for this soon-to-be massive hit!" said Alain Corre, Managing Director for Europe, Asia Pacific and South America, Ubisoft. "It is already looking superb, and we were delighted to receive the award for Best PC Game of the Show at this year's ECTS, especially among such tough competition."

"We are pleased to work hand in hand with Ubisoft to create this exciting Far Cry(tm) game," said Cevat Yerli, CEO, Crytek. "Ubisoft is a major publisher, with the global distribution networks in place to take our product to a massive audience."

Far Cry is due for release by Christmas 2003.
