How far off a limb would I have to go to say that last years Madden NFL PC entry was a little bit of a disappointment? Well rejoice sports fans because EA has heard the cries from the stands and have adjusted their game plan accordingly. What's Madden NFL '99 set to offer you? How about:

• Over 1200 polygons per player.
• 3Dfx support.
• Franchise mode.
• Full playability over lan and possibly the internet.

Madden '99 will feature "Soundwise", a full Dolby Surround System and also "StarTalk" where John Maddens commentary becomes more timely and informational. Madden 99 will also feature a one button play mode that allows new fans of the series the ability to compete with more experienced gamers. How is this done? For starters, the computer AI is much smarter, allowing actions such as hiking and handing the ball off possible using one button. The AI interprets the situation in the game and, depending on when the button is pressed, takes the appropriate action for that moment in the game. As for franchise mode, it allows players to come into the league, to age and finally to retire.

For a quick first look, this game looks like it could be a contender. If everything planned gets implemented, get ready for some exciting football from Madden NFL '99.

Every stadium in the NFL is fully rendered in a 3-D environment. Video footage features John Madden and Pat Summerall in the broadcast booth delivering color commentary. Madden's new "Star Talk" commentary gives the user information about key players as they become factors in the game.
