The Seal of Evil story is set in the twilight years of the Warring States period of Chinese history (476 206 BC). This turbulent time marks the disintegration of the longest lived of all imperial dynasties, the Zhou. Out of the strife and chaos emerges a nobleman possessed of an indomitable spirit and an uncompromising vision of the future: Ying Zheng, ruler of the Qin state. He will stop at nothing to reunite the disparate Chinese kingdoms. Combining ancient legends and mythic storytelling with historical fact, Seal of Evil sets the stage for an epic adventure wherein the players struggle to thwart the Qin invasion of their peaceful homeland, East Baiyue. Ferocious beasts, merciless enemy soldiers, wicked bandits, and terrifying supernatural foes are hazards they must face in order to achieve this goal. There is still hope for them, however, for along the way they will also make many friends and acquire powerful weapons and equipment. And armed with mighty elemental magic, they may yet come face to face with the very Gods themselves

The story is set in the last few years of the Warring States period in ancient China more than 2,200 years ago i.e. about 15 years before Prince of Qin. Qin had gradually become the most powerful state in China and began making an overall plan to conquer the other six states. Meanwhile, Qin troops kept attacking the Baiyue people living in the southwest of China. As a result of these repeated invasions the whole race of West Baiyue led by Yan Bo was annihilated. The people of East Baiyue, under the leadership of Lan Xiong, then fought a desperate war against the Qin army.

Several years later, Lan Xiong and the Chief Sacrifice Wizard, Chi Huan, died mysteriously one after the other. What or who was behind their deaths? Lan Wei, Lan Xiong's daughter, aided by her boy friend Yan Hong and a Beastman friend named Liang Hu, began their dangerous adventure into the Central Plains to find the famous Empyrean Stones which Lan Wei believed could be used, by piecing them together, to make herfather live again...

After experiencing numerous hardships, they finally found the last of the five Empyrean Stones in the territory of Beastman, the race that had the appearance of being half man and half beast, at Kunlun Mountain. When Lan Wei was putting all the five Empyrean Stones together praying to the gods to bring her father back to the world of the living, the leader of Beastman suddenly appeared in front of her and told her that these stones were the magic seal which fettered the soul of Chi You. Once they pieced them together, Chi You's soul would be freed and he would bring the world untold disaster. Furthermore, anyone brought back to life by the piecing together of the Empyrean Stones would be nothing more than a zombie and an unknowing puppet of Chi You.

The Yellow Emperor had battled Chi You in ancient times and after defeating him had imprisoned his soul in a magic seal. He then broke the seal into five pieces and scattered them. These pieces of the seal were known as the Empyrean Stones.

Lan Wei and her friends were doubtful about the warning from the leader of Beastman. After all Chiu You was still worshipped by the Baiyun people as their God of War. But soon events were to lead them to the inescapable conclusion that Chi You was immensely evil and that with Chi You freed a disaster for the human race was near at hand. They decided to use the Empyrean Stones to try and re-incarcerate Chi You's soul before it was too late.
