Any hero worth his salt needs an impressive arsenal of weapons - especially one engaged in a quest to recapture the most feared, powerful magic ever unleashed.

In Prince of Persia : The Sands of Time, the Prince acquires both swords and dagger to assist him as he struggles to harness the Sands of Time, which he mistakenly unleashed after being tricked by a rather nasty Vizier.

As he progresses through the hideously transformed Palace, the Prince discovers a series of increasingly powerful swords which offer him even greater strength against the obstacles that stand between him and his goal.

And that's a good thing - the Prince is indeed a strong, agile and a cunning fighter, but a veritable army stands between him and the containment of the Sands: a host of fierce sand creatures, rendered violent and bloodthirsty after being tainted by the swirling Sands.

The Prince's Swords:

The Prince starts the game armed with the Royal Sword, which he received from his father on his 18th birthday. Suitable for a young warrior charging into his first real battle, the Royal Sword gives the Prince plenty of power to smash through the breastplates of his Indian opponents.

But he'll need more to conquer what lies ahead - other, more powerful swords can be found in hidden places within the Palace, secreted away from potential thieves but discernable to the ever-observant Prince.

Combined with the dagger - which holds the power to recapture the Sands (and enables the Prince to manipulate time), these swords - when used wisely - will be a crucial element of the Prince's success:

• The Sword of the Mighty Warrior enables the Prince to smash thin walls with three solid blows, and enhances his combat abilities, as it helps slow the advance of enemies.
• The Sword of the Avenging Warrior possesses the same properties as the Sword of the Mighty Warrior, but its superior alloy gives even more power to the Prince, allowing him to break walls with a single blow. Few enemies can withstand its attack.
• The Sword of the Enlightened Warrior has the extraordinary and magical ability to de-materialize the Sand Creatures.

Like so much of the medieval Persian environment in the game, these words are based on extensive research about the armies, battles, and weapons in Persia during the crusades of the Middle Ages.
